Notre Dame Sponsored Employment Petitions
ISSA facilitates the filing of a variety of Notre Dame sponsored employment authorization petitions on behalf of academic units, including:
- H-1B Temporary Worker
- TN NAFTA Professionals
- O-1 Visa: Individuals with Extraordinary Ability or Achievement
Academic units initiate the petition process by submitting the ISSA Immigration Request Form. In addition to the overview pages for each of these types, we have highlighted the main information for these three authorization types:

Primary Qualifications
|
- Position must be a specialty occupation and attainment of a bachelor’s or higher degree in the specific specialty.
|
- Must be a citizen of Canada or Mexico
- Profession must be listed on the Occupation List
|
- Must possess extraordinary ability in the sciences, arts, or education
|
Maximum Length of Stay in the U.S.
|
- Initial filing has maximum of stay of three years
- Extension may be filed for additional three years
|
- Initial authorization is up to three years, but renewable
- No maximum on renewals
|
- Initial filing has max stay of three years
- One year extensions can be filed indefinitely

Intent

Funding Requirements

Processing Times
|
- Once all documentation is received, allow up to 3 weeks for filing before following up.
- With Premium Processing, 15 days to receive a response (e.g approval, RFE, denial)
- If consular processing was selected on the I-129, check the link below for the current visa appointment wait times for the embassy/consulate that the individual will be attending

- Department must notify ISSA of any change in employment details PRIOR to the change
- Department must complete the Departure Form if the scholar is terminated or resigns

- Department notifies ISSA of any major changes in employment details.
- Department completes the Departure Form if the scholar is terminated, resigns, or transfers departments
