The Notre Dame community is enriched by the presence and engagement of our international students, and our work at International Student and Scholar Affairs (ISSA) includes a commitment to ensure that students are also enriched by and supported within our community. The additional logistics that international students must navigate, including the responsibilities associated with student visas and the experience of cultural adjustment, look different for each student, but often add an additional layer to their work as scholars and community builders.
In addition to advising on the many responsibilities Notre Dame-sponsored F-1 and J-1 visa holding students must manage, ISSA also partners across campus to ensure international students settle into life at Notre Dame and process the experience of integrating into a new academic and social culture. We host International Student Orientation to ensure students feel a strong sense of welcome and can begin creating a foundation of the community that will encourage and challenge them throughout their time at Notre Dame. We provide additional touch points, like Extended Orientation or ESL for International Spouses or information about work authorization, for students and their families so they can successfully accomplish their academic goals and social goals while maintaining their visa status.
