Hello! My name is Vongaishe Mutatu, and I am a sophomore majoring in Mechanical Engineering. I was born in Zimbabwe, but moved to chilly Michigan when I was five. On-campus I live in McGlinn Hall. After playing soccer all through high school I have fallen in love with flag football on campus--go Shamrocks! I'm also involved in the African Student Association and Dance Africa, as well as several engineering clubs. During my first year at Notre Dame, I've appreciated getting to know my professors, hanging out with my friends, and all the unique campus events, like movie nights at DPAC, food truck night, and the rodeo BBQ. I also love the atmosphere surrounding Notre Dame football--sitting next to the band, learning the chants, seeing so many alumni--I began to understand that I am a part of the Notre Dame family. I am happy you are part of the Notre Dame family too. Have a great year and Go Irish!

Favorite ND Moment

My favorite moments at Notre Dame are when my friends and I go to someone's dorm and we talk for ours upon hours. We learn more about each other and we are always laughing. These talks have made Notre Dame feel more like home and I will cherish them for the rest of my life.

Advice for Incoming International Students

My advice to you is allow yourself to be apologetically you. You will find good friends that will like you for you. They might not come right away but you will find them. Also, take the time to have fun and enjoy yourself. Schoolwork is important, but the moments you create outside of schoolwork are just as important.
