Hello there! My name is Jacques-Alexander Gonnard and I was born and raised in Paris, France to a French father and an American mother. Growing up in a foreign country, it was difficult at times to get used to South Bend, Indiana and a new school system. Being an IA has allowed me to meet fellow internationals that might be in the same boat as me. So don’t hesitate to reach out! Make sure you take advantage of the campus life, the clubs, the dorms, the facilities, the sports, and all other activities. Use your first year to figure out what you truly want to study. I was all over the place my freshmen year, but the four-year degree does give you the flexibility to try out different things, so take advantage of that. Do not worry about being far from home in a different culture, you are getting out of your comfort zone and that is a valuable experience. You are broadening your horizons and that is the very best thing that ND will give you. Hopefully you will embrace these differences and use them to deepen your internationalism, I know I have and it has been rewarding. I look forward to meeting all of you in person!
