Club Funding
International Student Clubs play a vital role in assisting international students in their adjustment to a new academic and social culture in internationalizing the campus and inviting the wider community to explore authentic cultural expressions and to consider new perspectives.
Club members must be able to draw upon sources of funding and support in order to continue this good work. In order to distribute the limited funds available through International Student Services & Activities office for the year 2008-09, we will award each semester: 18 grants of up to $250.00. In some instances, ISSA will consider making a double award of up to 500 dollars.
How can your club qualify for ISSA funding?
- A club representative must attend at least one of the ISSA Cultural Club Roundtables facilitated each semester.
- Club officers must submit an application for each event for which funds are requested.
Applications must include:
- Name and purpose of the event
- Brief description of the event
- Target audience or participant
- Dates and times of the event
- Proposed venues
- Budget, with line items indicating anticipated costs
- List of other possible sponsors (with amount of funding granted or anticipated)
- Promotion strategies
Requests should be submitted at least two weeks before any event during the semester in which the event will occur.
Remember that events for which a club seeks funding should be those that “educate, entertain, or increase student participation in a cause.” In addition, International Clubs should endeavor to present programs of international or cultural interest!
Application Form – Please fill out and drop off at the ISSA-Programs office or send by campus mail: 204 LaFortune
Accounting for Expenses
ISSA will transfer the full amount of the grant to the club account. Club officers should submit copies of receipts to ISSA but should retain receipts for all expenses as directed by Student Activities.
Priority for Funding
First priority for funding will go to clubs who have no other or few other resources for funding. (ISSA will work with all clubs to research alternative and supplemental sources of funding).
ISSA will give priority to those applications which provide:
- a detailed event description
- due consideration for expenses
- an international/cultural focus
- an invitation to the wider community
- thoughtful coordination with other clubs and organizations
