Field Trips
International Student Services and Activities sponsors a number of day trips each semester to areas of interest in Indiana, Illinois, and Michigan. These trips are announced through electronic listservs two to three weeks in advance. We ask that students come in person to the ISSA by a specific date in order to sign an insurance waiver and pick up a trip ticket.
Carpool
For carpools, we invite students who hold an Indiana Driver’s License to drive using a combination of university vans and personal autos. To drive a university van, in addition to holding an Indiana Driver’s License, a student must be at least 18 years old and complete a one-hour training session for certification through the university’s Transportation Department. We will assist drivers who plan to seek this certification. Those driving a personal vehicle must carry insurance on the vehicle used and meet the requirements listed above although it is not necessary to complete the training session.
We reimburse student drivers for the cost of their meals and for any fuel consumed during the trip upon presentation of the receipts. For trips by carpool there is no fee for passengers, but all participants must sign a waiver and pick up a trip ticket from the ISSA before the date specified.
Bus Trips
In order to secure a bus we need to have at least 30 participants who have signed a waiver and picked up a trip ticket at least 3 to 4 days in advance of any trip. In instances where we do not meet the 30-passenger minimum, we will cancel or reschedule the trip.
For trips by bus, the ISSA requests that adult passengers pay a fee of 5 to 10 dollars. Children, age ten and under, accompanied by an adult are not required to pay a fee, but in order to plan for adequate seating we will issue a trip ticket for each child.
Meals and Other Costs
During the trip, with the exception of student drivers for a carpool, all meals and other incidental costs are the responsibility of the participant unless the ISSA indicates otherwise.
